Deputy Assistant Secretary
Mr. Secundy directs the Department of Commerce’s efforts to enhance the competitiveness of the U.S. services industries, which account for approximately 80% of the private sector economy of the United States. In that capacity he leads his division’s efforts to develop trade policies, initiatives and programs aimed at ensuring the long term competitiveness of the U.S. services industry. He also directs the analysis of trends affecting U.S. businesses across the full services spectrum ranging from travel and tourism to finance, logistics and supply chain. Additionally, Mr. Secundy works to ensure that U.S. businesses have competitive access to export finance through the Department of Commerce’s representation on the Export-Import Bank and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation and the World Bank.
Horst Bossenmayer
President, Institute for Construction and the Environment, Germany
Horst Bossenmayer, President of the Institute for Construction and the Environment in Germany, will give a keynote address at the forum on THE NEW WAY TO DEFINE GREEN in Washington, D.C. on April 29, 2010. A distinguished civil engineer with broad experience in the design and execution of structures, he will speak on “Understanding Construction Product Regulation in the European Union.” Dr. Bossenmayer served as a Consultant with the European Commission and European Parliament since 2005. As President of the Standing Committee on Construction of the European Committee from 1997 to 2004, he led a key initiative focused on harmonization of product standards. Additionally, Horst Bossenmayer chaired CEN/TC 250, the committee working on a single set of Product Category Rules applicable to all construction products from 2000 to 2007 . He currently sits as a member of the Experts Committee of the Association of Buildings in Germany and of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
